Dear Friends:
As you may or may not have heard, Joy has
retired from The Literacy Center of Milford effective December 31, 2009. She has accomplished much during her 20 years of
involvement with literacy, 15 of which were as Executive Director of The Center. Although it is bittersweet to see her leave,
she has worked tirelessly and unselfishly, and it is time for her to pursue other interests and relax.
Joy has always had a wonderful rapport with
the students of the Center and gets enormous satisfaction from their accomplishments. When the Board of Directors proposed
that a student scholarship be established in her name, she was extremely pleased. This scholarship will enable students who
are learning through the Center to continue their education by helping to pay tuition or buy books.
All of us who worked with Joy throughout the
years know that this is a very meaningful tribute to her. The amount is not as important as your recognition of the work she
has done. An account has been set up at The Milford Bank/Woodmont, 259 Merwin Avenue, Milford, CT 06460. Checks can be made
payable to The LCM/Joy Stonier Scholarship Fund. We are hopeful that you will join us in recognizing an outstanding career
in service to others.
It is also our pleasure to announce that Tamara
(Tami) Jackson is our new Executive Director! Tami has worked
on the Center’s fund raising events and served as a Board member. We welcome her aboard and look forward to a bright
future with Tami at the helm.
Sincerely,
Karen O’Neil & Monica Foran,
past and present Literacy Center Board presidents
